‘Your career in Europe is also cash’ — Boniface defies Osimhen, ex-Super Eagles stars over Saudi move

Bayer Leverkusen star, Victor Boniface, has stirred the pot with his stance on moving to Saudi Arabia for a pay cheque.

While some Nigerian players like Victor Osimhen flirted with the idea of cashing in on Saudi offers, Boniface seems to have his sights set on Europe for now.

Osimhen, who came close to joining Al Ahli before Napoli's last-minute issues scuppered the deal, received both criticism and support.

Some fans questioned why he would leave his thriving career in Europe for Saudi Arabia, seeing it as a shameful fall from grace for the Nigerian striker.

On the other side of the debate, former Super Eagles stars, especially John Ogu, defended Osimhen’s choice to leave Europe for a payday in Saudi Arabia.

Boniface, who enjoyed unprecedented success in his first season with Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal unbeaten, seems to be steering away from following in that school of thought, at least for now.

In a recent interview, when asked if he would consider a move to Saudi Arabia, Boniface was clear: “No, not now, I’m not thinking of that right now.”

The question of whether to sacrifice a European career for big-money moves to the Saudi Pro League has been a hot topic, especially after Osimhen almost made the jump to Al Ahli this summer.

However, Boniface had a different perspective on a potential move to Saudi Arabia over staying in Europe.

The Bayer Leverkusen star was asked if he would sacrifice his European career for money, and he replied, “Your career in Europe is also cash.”

When pressed further, Boniface added, “I only know of money now; when the time for more money comes, I will think about it.”

Unlike Osimhen and some former Super Eagles players, Boniface is more focused on making his mark in Europe before thinking about a big-money move elsewhere.
