Zimbabwe 1-1 Super Eagles: Peseiro divides Nigerian football fans ahead of AFCON
The Nigerian Super Eagles are still looking for their first victory in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for 2026.
The Super Eagles wore angry expressions when they landed in Rwanda to play the Warriors of Zimbabwe after being held to a 1-1 draw by the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Super Eagles 1-1 Zimbabwe
In the 26th minute, Walter Musona's thunderous free kick put Zimbabwe ahead, and the Super Eagles had to fight back to salvage a point.
The first half of Nigeria's response was lackluster as Terem Moffi and Nathan Tella, their attacking tandem, were unable to establish a rhythm.
To assist his team in turning things around, coach José Peseiro brought in Iheanacho and Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen at halftime.
The substitution proved beneficial as Iheanacho equalized in the 67th minute after captain Moses Simon's deft assist.
In the final moments, Zimbabwe's resilient defense held strong and ensured a sharing of the points despite Nigeria's best efforts to find a winner.
After the game, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was blamed on social media.
Nigeria's first encounter in Group C ended in an unexpected 1-1 tie with Lesotho, leaving them with two points from two games.
South Africa has not yet played their second game but leads the group with three points.
Peseiro divides Nigerians ahead of Super Eagles AFCON campaign
After viewing recent World Cup qualifiers, some supporters of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been unhappy with Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro.
On the other hand, some have called for patience with several group games left to play.
Nigerian football supporters are split on what the Nigerian Football Federation should do with Jose Peseiro in light of his tiresome and obscene performances in both games.
Jose Peseiro is not the ideal candidate, according to some, to guide Nigeria to victory in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Some think it would be catastrophic for their team's campaign to fire their head coach so close to a big competition.
