The new National Basketball League season is approaching, and teams are beefing up their roasters to prepare for Tip off. One such team is last year's NBL finalists in Namuwongo Blazers.

Before Saturday, 25th February, they lost most of their marquee signings and deserted the club citing unpaid salaries and broken promises.

Ariel Okall, Saidi Amisi, David Deng, Keneddy Wachira, Peter Obleng and Collins Kasujja are some of the players who left.

However, the Namuwongo-based side, at an event held on Saturday, 25th February, to unveil new signings, announced the capture of, among others, Geoffrey Soro.

"It was not a hard decision for me because the idea sold to me was that this season's Blazers is about people who grew up in Namuwongo, so it will be about playing for family," Soro told Pulse Sports.

"To my fellow new players, I think they are experienced players who have played for a long."

"I don't think anyone will want to play for fun; we want to go out there and play hard to make the fans and ourselves proud and maybe reach the finals again," he added.

Asked about what led to his decision to dump five-time league champions in Power, Soro stressed that he tried to engage the top hierarchy in vain.

"Leaving Power was also not a hard decision because I tried to engage the administration and amicably find a way to resolve our issues about the payment last season because they now have a new sponsor, but communication down the road failed, so I moved on."

New additions in Valentine Blair, Carlos Ochi, Dickson Asiku, Landry Ndikumana and Michael Makiadi will be expected to lead coach Steven Nyeko's title charge.
