The big question which remains unanswered, however, is who will stop City Oilers and when?

City Oilers played ten first-round games before flying out for the Basketball Africa League in Cairo, Egypt.

They won ten in a row and were left with just one game, against Kampala Rockets, which was played and won to hand the eight-time champions an 11-0 record to end the first half of the season.

Eleven played, and all won. City Oilers look different from a team that is about to make it easy for the opponents to dethrone them.

Namuwongo Blazers, KIU Titans and UCU Canons, the teams expected to halt Oilers' run to a ninth straight championship, have all tested the dictator's wrath.

Will anyone stop them?

Going by the signs of the first round, it is worrying for the opposition.

The Oilers barely had their entire team in the first round.

Tonny Drileba only joined the rest later, having started the season injured, while Titus Lual and Fayed Baale sat out some games with knocks.

At full strength, it is hard to see a team stopping this Oilers' machine.

And having tested top-level basketball in the BAL, City Oilers will be encouraged to continue dominating locally in order to keep getting the chance to rub shoulders with the best on the continent.

Titans closest challengers

KIU Titans were the first team to test City Oilers' venom in the very first game of the season. Oilers pummelled Julius Lutwama's charges 79-51 on opening night to send a clear message.

The Titans had done their shopping in the pre-season. They acquired the services of Saidi Amisi, Innocent Ochera, Collins Kasujja and Peter Obleng, but all these were reminded of the size of the team they are challenging for the title.

The Kansanga-based outfit ended the round in second place and with a respectable 9-2 record to lead the chasing pack.

Only City Oilers and UCU Canons managed to get results off KIU and that should encourage them going into the second round.

The big question which remains unanswered, however, is who will stop City Oilers and when?
