What remains to be seen is whether Eteu has any political ambitions himself as the 2026 elections draw further closer.

Former Silverbacks head coach Gad Eteu has left more questions than answers since relocating to the US.

He is now into football and runs a program in the US.

But his latest association with Ugandan politics might surprise many who only refer to him as a basketball man.

Of late, Eteu’s timeline on Twitter is filled with messages showing his support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The former Warriors and Falcons coach Tweeted on Monday: “Ours is an idea whose time has come and is unstoppable. The most beautiful thing about it, it’s all nyekundire.

Just good people who believe in the hope our Principal gives us and above all, the love we have for his focus to move our country forward motivates us to support him.”

Here, Eteu was quoting Kainerugaba’s Tweet from April 1, in which the General revealed that he will stand in the 2026 election and win it.

But what is for sure is that he has chosen his side and is not afraid to show it.

Basketball and sports people, in general, have been accused of staying out of politics and, in return, failing to get voices in places of decision-making to lobby for sport.

Is Eteu the man to bridge that gap? Maybe or maybe not.
