When the stakes were high and the game on the line, City Oilers had the experience and quality to execute while the Titans let it slip with turnovers and poor shot selection.

KIU Titans put up a respectable fight but lost 80-72 to City Oilers in overtime Friday night.

City Oilers triumphed in the exhilarating basketball league game at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo to condemn the Titans to a second straight loss for the first time this season.

KIU Titans spent a significant portion of the game playing catch-up but put up a commendable fight and were in charge down the stretch in regulation time, only for the superior quality of Oilers to shine through at a crucial juncture.

The regular regulation time concluded with a 66-all tie before the Titans were restricted to a mere six points in the five-minute overtime period.

“It was a good game, tough fight, we went into extra time and lost it but we put up a good show,” Titans coach Julius Lutwama said.

“They took so many things from us in extra time and that’s why they won the game but it’s a lesson for us moving forward,” he added.

“I’m excited going into the playoffs, though we lost, its’s the best game we’ve had and we hope it’s going to be a pick up moment for us to play.”

When the stakes were high and the game on the line, City Oilers had the experience and quality to execute while the Titans let it slip with turnovers and poor shot selection.

The Titans will now be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Ndejje University Angels in their penultimate regular season game on Sunday.

The Kansanga-based side are third on the log with a 16-4 record.
