City Oilers have missed out on a ticket to the Basketball Africa League following an 80-70 loss to Cape Town Tigers on Saturday.

City Oilers went into the game well aware that only victory would leave them in contention for a ticket to Kigali, Rwanda but struggled for offense down the stretch.

Falando Jones scored a team-high 27 points for the Oilers and was the only hot hand throughout the game.

Leading scorer James Justice Jr. shot three for 14 from the field and ended the game with nine points while Titus Lual and Jimmy Enabu had eight and seven points respectively.

Fayed Baale hit a three to make it a four-point game with 2.34 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Jones had the opportunity to cut the deficit to two points but missed two free throws with 1.40 left on the game.

Pieter Prinslo then reacted and punished the Ugandan side from three-point range to stretch the lead to seven points.

There was no way for Mandy Juruni’s charges who will now end the Nile Conference bottom of the table.

Germaine Roebuck Jr. limped off in the second quarter and missed the rest of the game.

The 96-75 win over Ferroviatio da Beira is all Oilers have to show after five games.
