One of the best basketball players Uganda has ever produced has gone missing under what seems to be unclear circumstances.

Pulse Sports reliably understands that Steven Omony has been missing for the past four months, with his whereabouts unknown even to his own family members.

According to reliable sources, efforts by Uganda Police to cross-check if the former Silverback had used his passport at any of the country’s exit/border points in an attempt to leave the country have also proved futile, with the police requesting more time to confirm.

Close sources to Omony especially in his playing days told Pulse Sports that much as it is worrying, this is not new as he used to do that a lot.

Other sources claim that he could be in Seychelles where it is believed he has a family, Omony played there for seven seasons with PLS Hawks between between 2001 and 2008.

In 2020, while at City Oilers, Omony underwent knee surgery but never returned to action even after he recovered from the injury.

He instead chose gospel ministry and worked closely with Phaneroo Ministries, a born-again movement led by Apostle Grace Lubega, who occasionally plays basketball with a number of his followers at the MTN Lugogo Arena.

The 41-year-old former forward, who turned out for sides including Blue Jackets, Falcons and City Oilers, is revered as one of the best players Uganda has ever seen.

He also famously played professional basketball, turning out for Seychelles side PLS Hawks for seven seasons.
