Jannon Otto stood out the most and conducted a scoring clinic, pouring in 29 points, most of which came from her trademark mid-range pull-up.

The Uganda Gazelles had their first five-on-five scrimmage on Wednesday as preparations for the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket enter the final bend.

With the Afrobasket eight days away, head coach Alberto Antuna and his coaching staff do not have much time left to polish the different areas.

One of the things that impressed the Spaniard was the team’s ability to score the basketball against a very competitive Select Team.

Jannon Otto stood out the most and conducted a scoring clinic, pouring in 29 points, most of which came from her trademark mid-range pull-up.

Having been Uganda’s best player in the February qualifiers, the naturalised star will certainly carry the team’s scoring burden in Kigali.

And her performance showed that she will be more than ready for that task.

Melissa Akullu and Jane Asinde were the other live wires on offence for the Gazelles, scoring 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Maureen Amoding (18), Sarah Ageno (16) and Rose Amaniyo (11) were the standout performers for Team Select on the day.

Antuna used all the 11 available players to try out different combinations and structures.

The mid-range shot and the fast breaks will come in handy for the Gazelles against much bigger opposition in Kigali.

The arrival of Claire Lamunu on Saturday will give the coaches yet another top piece to work with before flying out for the tournament.
