Cranes were urged by coach Paul Put to showcase talent at AFCON 2024, a crucial step before East Africa hosts in 2027.
Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put has challenged his charges to give their best in the Africa Cup Of Nations Championships set for Morocco in December.
Put said it is important for the Cranes to deliver their best performance and give Ugandans something to smile about, as this year's edition will give a true picture of what to expect in 2027, when East Africa host Africa's Premier Competition.
“We must believe in ourselves because we know there are no easy games in Africa,” Put told Cafonline.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host the 2027 edition and put urged his charges to showcase their talent.
“We have to prepare ourselves and be ready to play. We know that in 2027, we will be hosting the tournament, so this is a great opportunity for our players to showcase their talent and give something to the public of Uganda.”
Uganda Cranes are in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania. The Super Eagles were runner-up in the last year's edition while Tunisia are regular in the biennial tournament.
This will be the Cranes' eighth appearance at the competition. They last featured in 2019, where they dropped out in the round of 16 in the hands of Senegal.
While expectations may not be as high as Nigeria or Tunisia, Put remains optimistic that Uganda can make an impact and take valuable lessons from Morocco ahead of their historic role as tournament hosts in 2027.
The Cranes’ best-ever finish came in 1978, when they reached the final, losing to Ghana.
