A first-half penalty from Saidi Mayanja was all that separated the two sides, giving the Kasasiro Boys a significant early-season boost and local bragging rights.

The match's pivotal moment came in the 35th minute amid considerable controversy. Just moments after NEC's Richard Basangwa missed a clear opportunity by heading wide, the referee's decision became the focal point.

Daniel Shabene's challenge on Yunus Sibira inside the penalty area led the official to award a spot-kick, a decision that incensed the NEC players and staff.

Despite the heated protests, Mayanja kept his composure and confidently dispatched the penalty, firing it past NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo to put KCCA ahead.

After halftime, NEC mounted a determined push for an equalizer, but KCCA's backline remained organized and resilient, repelling every attack.

KCCA had an opportunity to extend their advantage ten minutes into the second half when Emmanuel Anyama found Sibira in a promising position, but the midfielder sent his shot sailing over the crossbar.

As the clock wound down, KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa made a crucial, match-winning save. With just six minutes left, he dove to parry a powerful long-range strike from Enrique Lubwama, ensuring his team held on for the victory.
