The Seagulls proved to be just too good a side for Jurgen Klopp’s poor Reds.
Brighton & Hove Albion won a Premier League home game against Liverpool for the first time in their history, as Roberto de Zerbi’s men strolled to a 3-0 victory at the AMEX Stadium.
Brighton piled more misery on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp after a stunning 3-0 victory. Solly March scored twice after half time before Danny Welbeck put the icing on the cake late on.
The defeat is Liverpool’s sixth in the league this season and saw their triumphant opponents leapfrog them in the Premier League table.
After withstanding waves of pressure before the break, Liverpool were completely undone upon the restart, conceding twice within the first eight minutes of the second half. Joel Matip was caught in possession in his own half and the Seagulls swooped.
Kaoru Mitoma collected the ball and slotted in March for a simple tap-in. The Reds’ implosion continued as Ferguson played in March again just minutes later to provide a glorious finish into the far corner, leaving Allison with no chance of stopping it.
With 10 minutes to go, Brighton put the game firmly beyond Liverpool. A quick throw-in caught the Reds cold before March fed Danny Welbeck to score his first league goal of the season. The former England man showed tremendous composure to hook the ball over Joe Gomez and slot beyond Alisson for a romping victory.
Talking Point
Liverpool's away form troubling
For the fifth time this season, Liverpool have lost away from home, with their only wins coming at Tottenham in November and Aston Villa on Boxing Day. This loss, coming so close in time to the 3-1 defeat at Brentford, will sting particularly badly.
The Reds are now 15 points worse off than they were at this stage and, more importantly, are seven points adrift of the top-four. Their season seems to be going from bad to worse every passing week.
