Chelsea are yet to find an agreement with midfielder Mason Mount over a new contract as his current deal at the club expires in 18 months
Chelsea have been in negotiations with Mason Mount over a new deal since last summer but both parties are still a long way from finding a resolution.
No resolution to Mount contract talks
Mount is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2024 and Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is eager to tie the England International to a long-term deal.
Mount has become a much better player since he signed his last deal in 2019. He was a vital part of the Champions League triumph under former boss Thomas Tuchel and was named Chelsea's player of the season.
The situation at the moment is that Mount wants a salary that reflects his value to the club and the owners, a figure thought to be significantly higher than what Chelsea are prepared to offer.
According to the Evening Standard, there has been no progress made between the two parties. Mount is believed to be looking to triple his current £80,000-a-week wages while Boehly is reluctant to break the new wage structure at the club.
Could Mount leave Chelsea?
As far as the possibility of Mount leaving Chelsea in the summer and potential destinations, Liverpool have been credited with a strong interest.
The Reds are in need of midfield reinforcements and Mount would be a perfect addition to Klopp's midfield, should a transfer materialize.
Big picture for Chelsea
Chelsea have some serious decisions to make regarding player departures and contract extensions in the coming months.
In addition to Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic are all in the final 18 months of their contracts.
