CECAFA stuns fans with a U-turn, introducing gate charges for the group stage finale after initially promising free entry.

The Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) has announced that there will be gate charges for the last match of the group stages in the CECAFA Under-18 Championship.

This decision comes after the organizers initially promised free entry for all matches in the first and second rounds of group matches.

Football fans had been enjoying free access to the thrilling matches but it seems the finale of the group stage will come at a price.

The matches scheduled for Friday and Saturday at both Kakamega and Kisumu venues promise exciting Group A and Group B clashes.

On Friday, fans can look forward to witnessing Kenya vs. Somalia at Bukhungu Stadium and Rwanda vs. Sudan at Jomo Kenyatta Mambo Leo Stadium, both kicking off at 2 pm.

Meanwhile, Saturday will feature Group B matches, with Tanzania facing off against Zanzibar at Bukhungu Stadium and Uganda taking on South Sudan at Jomo Kenyatta Mambo Leo Stadium, also starting at 2 pm.

According to a statement sent to media houses, for those planning to attend the matches at the Jomo Kenyatta Mambo Leo Stadium, the entry fee will be Ksh 100 for all spectators.

On the other hand, fans heading to the Bukhungu Stadium will have two ticket options – VIP tickets for Ksh 300 and regular tickets for Ksh 100.

The decision to introduce gate charges for the final group stage matches has caught many fans by surprise, as they have been enjoying the games without any cost so far.

The free entry had filled the stadiums with enthusiastic football supporters, but now they will need to consider the added expense to witness the upcoming matches.

Kenya has already secured a spot in the semi-final stage of the tournament, having won their opening match with an impressive 5-0 victory against Sudan.

The host nation continued their winning streak by defeating Rwanda 1-0 in their second Group A match, played at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium.

The Junior Stars' outstanding performance, characterized by their precise passing, composure, and skill in creating scoring opportunities, has left local football fans eagerly anticipating their next match against Somalia.

As the championship progresses and teams battle for supremacy, football enthusiasts will have to decide whether they are willing to pay the entry fees to witness the exciting matches.

The organizers have assured that the matches will also be broadcasted live on the Football Kenya Federation Facebook Page and KBC and Y254 YouTube channels, and match highlights will be shared promptly.
