Bosija Sedilame's heroic save preserved Botswana's draw against Harambee Starlets in 2024 WAFCON qualifier on Wednesday.

Botswana's women's national team captain Bosija Sedilame has shed light on the brilliant tactics that led to their hard-fought 1-1 draw against Harambee Starlets in the first leg of their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier.

Sedilame, who delivered a standout performance by saving a crucial penalty, shared insights into how her team managed to thwart the Kenyan side and secure a valuable result.

The match took an intense turn in the closing minutes as Violet Nanjala, a second-half substitute for Kenya, had the opportunity to snatch victory with a late penalty after a handball incident inside the box.

Sedilame's heroic save denied Nanjala and preserved the draw, which proved to be pivotal for Botswana.

Reflecting on the crucial moment, the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goalkeeper Sedilame remarked, "Honestly, it happened to one of our players, so I had to cover for them. I had to do it for the team."

Her selfless act saved the day and earned her the admiration of fans and teammates alike.

"It meant everything for the team because we could have lost the match, but at least we got a draw," she added with pride.

Throughout the second half, the Kenyan team faced mounting frustration as Botswana cleverly employed time-wasting tactics to disrupt their rhythm.

Sedilame's side knew they were up against a formidable opponent, especially when Kenya moved the ball forward in the first half. However, their patience and strategic approach paid off.

"We knew Kenya is a good team, especially when they move the ball forward in the first half. However, we managed to be patient, let them have the ball, and keep the space. We were able to wait for those mistakes they made and capitalize on them," Sedilame explained.

Bosija Sedilame's journey to becoming the captain and star goalkeeper of the Botswana women's national team is a remarkable one.

She began her career as a striker, learning the ropes of the sport she loves.

Over the years, Sedilame honed her skills and made a name for herself in African football.

Before joining Mameldoi Sundowns, she had stints with Double Action and Bloemfontein Celtics.
