Ibrahim ‘Owen’ Kasule: Ugandan Midfielder Makes History in America

The former Wakiso Giants midfielder has made his mark in the United States after scoring a historic hat-trick for New York Red Bulls II.

Former Wakiso Giants midfielder Ibrahim ‘Owen’ Kasule continues to make his presence felt in the United States after scoring a hat-trick for his club New York Red Bulls II in the MLS Pro Next on Thursday morning.

Kasule scored his three goals against Crown Legacy as Red Bulls II won 5-2 to maintain their place at the top of the MLS Pro Next.

With his hat-trick, the Ugandan went ahead of Brandon Allen as the club’s all-time top scorer with 27 goals through league play, some piece of history for him, and there was much more.

At 21 years and 107 days old, Kasule also became the youngest-ever New York Red Bulls II player to score a hat-trick with his heroics seeing him take his tally to five games this season.

Kasule was featuring in his 63rd match for the club which saw him draw level with Jordan Scarlett for fourth-most appearances in New York Red Bulls II’s history.

The midfielder joined the club in March 2023 after two years with Wakiso Giants and scored his first goal for the club two months later, going on to manage 17 goals in 27 matches across all competitions that season.

He also played for the senior team New York Red Bulls in the MLS for the first time in August 2023 and with his impressive hat-trick, scored in the 39th, 55th and 89th minutes, he will be angling for a place back in the top flight side.

Kasule’s heroics might have also seen Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put take notice as he looks for players to make his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
