Vipers co-coach Fred Muhumuza has warned against underestimating KCCA in the Uganda Cup final because of the poor league season they have had.

Even as he looks to seal a double, Vipers co-coach Fred Muhumuza knows he is up against a formidable opponent in KCCA even after the latter’s poor league campaign.

KCCA had a disappointing fifth place finish in the Uganda Premier League but have a chance to end the season with a trophy if they can beat league champions Vipers in the Uganda Cup final at the new FUFA stadium, Kadiba on Saturday May 31.

That has left Muhumuza cautiously optimistic about his team’s chances as he understands their opponents have had a less than impressive season but does not want to underrate them in the crucial final.

“KCCA is a good team with talented players capable of beating anyone. I know they had a rough run in the league but we cannot entirely base on that ahead of the final. We know they will come all out because there is so much at stake,” Muhumuza said as per Kawowo Sports.

“We are therefore prepared and focused ready to give our best performance. Games like these are won on moments meaning we have to rise to the occasion.”

The two teams have faced off twice this season with Vipers proving superior after a 1-1 draw in November 2024 was followed by a 2-0 victory for the Premier League champions in February.

However, KCCA still have memories of 2018 fresh when they won a double after beating Vipers 1-0 in the cup final, something they are looking to do again on Saturday.
