The former Arsenal right-back has expressed his joy at finding peace following a nasty divorce that saw his ex-wife handed a huge chunk of what he owned.

Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue has explained how he has rebuilt his life following a bitter divorce that saw him lose a huge chunk of his properties.

Eboue was reported to have ‘gone bankrupt and rendered homeless’ after losing most of his wealth to ex-wife Aurelie Bertrand in England over six years ago but has overcome the setback and got back to his feet.

The 40-year-old, who retired from football in 2020, went on to remarry, tying the knot with his childhood sweetheart Stephanie Boede, after returning to the Ivory Coast and currently owns and runs a football academy in his country.

“I am so happy, I am very well. I just want to say to my fans that Eboue Emmanuel is well,” Eboue told Kenyan journalist Collins Okinyo after the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw in Abidjan on Thursday.

“I am here in my country, I am helping the young people who want to play football so God bless you and see you soon. My family is okay. I am here with my wife and I thank God for that.”

While he previously admitted that the bitter separation left him depressed, Eboue denied most of what was reported after some reports claimed he had resorted to living with friends and family abroad when he lost his wealth.

“When I hear people say Emmanuel Eboue lost everything, I laugh. I have properties in Ghana, I have properties in my home country,” Eboue told Ghana’s Empire FM in 2021.

“I live very comfortably and I thank God. So, when people keep talking and say Emmanuel Eboue doesn’t have anything, he can’t eat, doesn’t have a place to stay, it’s not true.”

Eboue’s Ivory Coast, who will host the delayed 2023 AFCON tournament in 2024, were drawn in a tricky Group A alongside Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau but the former right-back believes the Elephants have enough to claim the title they last won in 2015 on home soil.

“For every country, it is going to be tough so you have to be ready. Here in my country Ivory Coast we still have big players so the draw is very difficult but I believe in my country and my team and hope that the cup will stay here in my country,” he added.

Eboue joined Arsenal in 2004 from Belgian side Beveren and played for the club for over six years, featuring in 214 games while scoring 10 goals for Arsene Wenger’s men, before moving to Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2011 where he enjoyed a trophy-laden three-year stint.

He won 79 caps for the Ivory Coast, scoring three goals, and was part of the star-studded squad that finished second in the AFCON 2006 and 2012.
