Obua's appointment follows a rigorous selection process, during which several notable candidates were considered for the role.

Ugandan football legend David Obua has been named as the next head coach for StarTimes Uganda Premier League giants, URA FC, Pulse Sports Uganda has learnt.

His appointment which has been awaited for weeks now comes in the wake of the unfortunate passing of coach Sam Timbe, leaving a void that Obua is now poised to fill.

Obua's appointment follows a rigorous selection process, during which several notable candidates were considered for the coveted role.

Among those in the running were former Vipers coach Alex Isabirye and Sam Ssimbwa. However, it was Obua’s name that has been drawn from the pot

Sources within the club have revealed that negotiations between Obua and URA FC have concluded successfully, with both parties reaching an agreement.

The terms of the deal are rumoured to include a two-year contract for the newly appointed head coach.

As part of his responsibilities, Obua will have the authority to select at least one assistant coach to join the coaching staff.

However, the club is expected to retain most of its existing coaching staff, ensuring a smooth transition.

Beyond Obua’s illustrious playing career, during which he featured for clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa and Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premier League, Obua has been on a relentless pursuit of coaching knowledge and badges.

That dedication was underscored by the attainment of the prestigious UEFA A Diploma, an advanced coaching qualification obtained in Belfast, Northern Ireland this year.

Obua's coaching journey began to take shape with brief yet impactful stints. In September 2018, he accepted the role of assistant coach at Maroons FC, embarking on a three-year contract that saw him working closely with then-head coach George Nsimbe.

This laid the foundation for his subsequent promotion to the position of head coach at Maroons following Nsimbe’s departure from the club, although that stint was short lived.

The left footed wizard has also previously served as the head coach for Lango Province during the 2022 FUFA Drum tournament.

With URA FC set to kick off the new season with an away clash against UPDF FC at the Bombo Military Barracks Grounds on Sunday, September 17, but Obua will not be in charge of the side.

His appointment is expected to be confirmed in the coming week, as the two parties agree on the fine details of his contract.
