Harambee Stars right-back Daniel Anyembe has seen his transfer value increase sharply in 2023 following his stellar performances for his club and national team

Harambee Stars defender Daniel Anyembe’s good run of form for both club and country in 2023 has seen his market value increase by around  €300,000 (Ksh52.2.million).

This is according to Transfermakt, who have rated the Danish-born defender’s market value at €700,000 (Ksh121.8 million), up from €400,000 (Ksh69 million), which was his value in December 2022.

The increase in market value will provide no real shocks to keen followers of Danish and Kenyan football, considering the former Denmark U23 captain has been in stellar form for his club Viborg despite suffering an unfortunate injury in October that effectively ruled him out of Kenya’s last three international matches.

Anyembe has made 12 appearances in both league and cup this season, playing mostly as a right-back, but as a centre-back in other games.

His playing career began at Esbjerg’s academy in 2009 before promotion to the first team in the 2017/18 season for who he made his European debut in a 2-0 loss to Belarussian side Shakhtyor Soligorsk in a UEFA Europa League qualifying round.

Anyembe joined newly-promoted Danish Superliga club Viborg on a deal until June 30, 2025 and has gone on to make 56 appearances for the side.

The defender was born and raised in Denmark, to a Kenyan father and a Danish mother, and before making his Harambee Stars debut against Iran, he revealed why he chose to play for his father’s country of birth.

“The Federation contacted me a few years ago but I ran into an injury. Now this year, we started talking again and I spoke to the coach. He called me and informed me of the project and he told me he had decided to have me," he said after his first training session.

"When he called, I was not in doubt that I was ready to come play for Kenya,

“He (coach Engin Firat) didn’t need to convince me much. He said he had been watching my game and liked how I play and he told me when I come here, I should express myself and be the player that he thinks I am and that I have the quality, but I have to show it.”
