The former Wazito and Mathare United defender played 90 minutes as Estrela made ammends for losing to Benfica by beating Estoril 2-1.

After losing to Benfica on his debut Primera Liga appearance, Johnstone Omurwa finally got to experience what it is like to soak in a Primera Liga win, clocking 90 minutes under his belt as Estrela da Amadora beat Estoril Praia 2-1 over the weekend.

Starting as a right sided center back in a back three, Omurwa looked assured both in and out of possession. He attempted five out of eight successful long balls, registering one key pass.

Off the ball, he won all five of his aerial duels attempted, blocked one shot, attempted three tackles and interceptions and won one ground duel.

Amadora should have scored in the third minute when Ronaldo Tavares received the ball from Leo Jaba who had forced Estoril into turning over possession, but his shot sailed just wide off the mark.

Estrela’s Joao Marquez nearly drew first blood in the 22nd minute when he was given acres of space to attempt a shot, but keeper Bruno Brigido dealt well with his threat.

The Hosts finally took the lead in the 46th minute through Tavares, after he was set up nicely by wingback Hevertton Santos who got on the end of Miguel Lopes’ long ball from deep.

The Visitors equalized in the 66th minute through Marquez after a swift counter attacking break saw him receive the ball before carrying it through a yard of space, before slotting the ball home.

Substitute Lucas then had a goal disallowed in the 79th minute after being set up nicely by central midfielder Alosio, but Amadora would still get the winning goal nonetheless during injury time.

Leo Cordieiro received the ball from Erivaldo Almeira before he dribbled the ball into the box and then unleashed a left footed shot into the back of the net, sending the Amadora faithful into frenzy.

Estoril will face Portimonense in the third match of the new league season before the international break and Omuruwa will be hoping his performances will earn him a recall to the Harambee Stars set up this September.
