Tottenham's promising defender is poised for a new challenge with an upcoming loan move to a Serie A club.

Tottenham Hotspur's young talent Djed Spence is gearing up for a fresh start in Italy as reports emerge of his impending loan move to Genoa.

This move comes as part of a significant transfer deal involving Genoa's promising defender Radu Dragusin heading to Spurs.

As reported by Athletic, the deal nearing its conclusion is reportedly valued at £25 million (Ksh 5 billion) including additional performance-related add-ons.

Spence, a player with Jamaican and Kenyan heritage, had rejoined Spurs last week following an earlier loan spell at Leeds United in the English Football League (EFL) Championship.

His time at Leeds was marred by a knee injury, limiting his appearances and prompting an early return to his parent club. Despite his challenges, Spence's potential remains high in the eyes of Tottenham's management.

The 22-year-old full-back initially joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 for £20 million (Ksh 4 billion)but struggled to secure regular first-team action.

His limited opportunities in the first season have not dimmed his prospects, as Spurs continue to value his potential contribution in the future.

The pursuit of a central defender has been a key focus for Tottenham in this transfer window.

Alongside Dragusin, other names like Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Jean-Clair Todibo were considered.

Spurs have faced defensive challenges this season, with first-choice centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero grappling with injuries and suspensions.

Consequently, manager Ange Postecoglou has had to adapt by deploying full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in central roles. Eric Dier's fall from favor, with just four league appearances this season, has further complicated the defensive equation for Spurs.

Radu Dragusin, the 21-year-old Romanian center-back, is set to fill this gap. He has played every Serie A game this season for Genoa, who currently sit 12th in the table with his performance instrumental in Genoa's promotion from Serie B last term.

Dragusin's experience includes loan stints at Sampdoria and Salernitana, and he is poised to feature for Romania in Euro 2024 following their qualification last year.

Djed Spence's loan move to Genoa represents a critical juncture in his career.

It offers him the opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience in one of Europe's top leagues and to demonstrate his ability on an international platform.

This move is not just a chance for Spence to rejuvenate his career but also to showcase the latent talent that prompted Tottenham to invest heavily in him.
