Ugandan netizens have taken to social media to share humorous memes in reaction to Uganda co-hosting AFCON 2027 with neighboring countries, Kenya and Tanzania.

While the news has been met with celebration, many express skepticism about Uganda’s readiness to host by 2027, humorously portraying their doubts through memes in the past 72 hours on X (formerly Twitter).

Former President of the Uganda Sports Press Association, Patrick Kanyomozi, shared several memes, one depicting a traffic officer leaving his post to follow the Egypt team bus with Mohammed Salah. “Owa traffic abandoning duty to follow the Egypt team bus,” he tweeted.

The KFM Sports editor also contributed, sharing an image of a tricycle ambulance, captioning, “A government delegation welcoming Sadio Mane at the hospital where he is rushed in an ambulance after getting injured.”

Bruno Akampa, a well-known Pirates rugby fan, also participated, sharing a meme of former Pirates prop Pajob Edgar enjoying a local dish, Kigere, at Kyadondo.

“A Cameroonian Football Federation member trying out an Ugandan delicacy at Kyadondo,” he captioned. He also posted another, “When Onana ends up at Meat Guy after Cameroon is eliminated,” he shared.

Pius Enywaru shared a clip of a white teenager making half cakes, a local delicacy, captioning it, “Mohamed Salah after getting stranded in Kulambiro,” he tweeted.

The EA Pamoja bid successfully overcame competition from Senegal, Egypt, and Botswana, securing the hosting rights on Wednesday at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

For the first time ever, Uganda, already qualified, will host up to nine home games at any of the selected stadiums.
