Inter joined Fiorentina and Roma on he losing side of finals this season, setting an unwanted record for Serie A

Inter and the rest of the Serie A contingent mount a sad day that completes a sad record for the Italian top flight after a season that showed so much promise for the league.

Serie A teams set up exciting end to the season

Inter, alongside Roma and Fiorentina, had made the finals of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League in the same year, making Serie A the first league to have three finalists in each of the current major finals.

Dreams of glory in Europe have, however, been dashed after all three teams fell to defeat in the finals, leaving the league at zero for three as far as European finals go this season.

Roma lost in a tense affair against Europa League specialists Sevilla, while Fiorentina lost to West Ham amidst on-pitch fracas before Inter were unable to stop Manchester City’s treble dream.

Serie A teams suffer record-breaking blow in finals

The results of all three finals leave Serie A with an unwanted record after they were so close to making a positive one.

After all three losses, Serie A now becomes the first league to produce three losing finalists in European competitions in the same season.

With Inter, and Roma returning to the same competitions next season, as well as powerhouse Juventus competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League, there is no doubt that Serie A teams will be hoping for a better outcome next season after suffering a huge blow in the current campaign.
