Ayunga looked sharp, finding the target two times as he continues to step up his recovery from a nasty 10-month-long injury.

Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga featured for 72 minutes to help him step up recovery from an 10-month-long knee injury but he could not help St.Mirren avoid defeat to giants Rangers in a Scottish Premiership encounter played at the Ibrox Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ayunga looked sharp, finding the target two times as he attempted to score his first goal of the season.

He also attempted one successful dribble from two attempts and tried to be involved despite the fact he was isolated, having touched the ball 16 times all game.

It was not all that pretty, but Abdallah Sima's double saw off St Mirren as Rangers now remain eight points behind leaders Celtic.

Rangers twice capitalized on mistakes from St.Mirren’s defence quite ruthlessly.

Cyriel Dessers found himself high on the right and slipped in Todd Cantwell, who drifted into the box and seemingly could not decide what to do.

However, red-hot Sima did not mess about as he slammed home his 10th goal of the season.

Their second goal was quite similar. It had been far from a glittering performance from Cantwell, but his sublime pass cut open the backline and sent Sima through on goal.

Buoyed by his earlier opener, the striker stayed cool to slot home his second of the afternoon.

In the end, the game ended 2-0 to Rangers, who are second in the league, 10 points behind leaders Celtic.

Stephen Robinson's St. Mirren stay fourth after Hearts leapfrogged them yesterday.

St Mirren have won just two from their last nine league games and find themselves sandwiched between the Edinburgh clubs - one point below Hearts and one above Hibs.
