Bayern Munich were defeated by Leipzig at the Allianz Arena as they lost their chance of going four points clear of Dortmund.

The Bavarians were one point clear of title rivals Dortmund heading to this game. However, they were unable to extend the point gap as they lost 3-1 to Leipzig, giving Dortmund the chance to go top of the table on Sunday.

The home side took the lead in the first half from a Serge Gnabry goal but a second-half rejuvenated Leipzig turned the game around with goals from Konrad Laimer, Christopher Nkuku and Dominik Szoboszlai sinking Bayern Munich.

Has it happened

Thomas Tuchel made two changes to his side that trashed Schalke last weekend with Goretzka and Musiala coming into the side. Morco Rose on the other hand made four changes to his side that defeated Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Thomas Muller got to a good shooting position, but he saw his teammate and passed the ball to him. Serge Gnabry then takes it nicely and beats the goalkeeper with a precise shot which bounces in off the left post to make the score.

The home side went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead as the away side struggled to get hold of the game.

Leipzig came into the second half with so much purpose and penetration. They got the equaliser in the 65th minute when Konrad Laimer received the ball inside the box, reacted quickly and without any problems stabbed the ball under the crossbar into the back of the net.

The away side put more pressure which paid off in the 75th minute when the referee Deniz Aytekin blew his whistle after Benjamin Pavard brought down one of his opponents with a strong tackle. The penalty was then converted by Christopher Nkunku who struck the ball down the middle.

Leipzig were not done yet as they were awarded another penalty in the 85th minute when Noussair Mazraoui handled the ball inside the box and the referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot. Dominik Szoboszlai then stepped up and confidently powers the spot kick into the bottom left corner.

The final whistle was blown as Bayern Munich failed to take advantage and move four points clear of Dortmund who will be playing on Sunday.
