Newcastle United are expected to be without their first choice goalkeeper Nick Pope for five months due to an injury, with ex-Manchester United star David De Gea a possible replacement.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will be interested in a move to Newcastle United following an injury blow to goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Pulse Sports can report that Pope is set to be on the sidelines for five months after an injury during the 1-0 win against Manchester United on Saturday.

De Gea open to Newcastle United

The 31-year-old was in action as the Magpies humiliated the Red Devils in a one-side affair thanks to an Anthony Gordon second half strike.

However, the victory came at a big price for Eddie Howe and his side as Pope was unable to finish the game after he was substituted with four minutes left due to an injury.

De Gea spent 12 years with Manchester United.

The international was replaced by second choice, Martin Dubravka for the final minutes of the brilliant win.

But according to a Telegraph article, Premier League legend De Gea is open to a move to the Magpies.

Nick Pope is set to miss up to five months.

The 33-year-old became a free agent after the expiration of his contract at Old Trafford, ending a 12-year romance with the Red Devils.

De Gea, who made 545 appearances for the club, has been reluctant to return to the Premier League to join another club but is open to replacing Pope at St. James’ Park.

The Spaniard emerged as the Golden Gloves winner in his final season at United, with 17 clean sheets but has been out of a job since he left the club six months ago.
