Manchester United faces do-or-die clash against Bayern Munich, seeking a Champions League lifeline with only 90 minutes left at Old Trafford.

Manchester United finds themselves on the brink of Champions League elimination with only 90 minutes remaining to secure their credentials in the competition at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are set to host a Bayern Munich side that has already sealed their qualification to the next round.

Both teams are reeling from humiliating defeats in their respective domestic leagues, but their focus now shifts to the European stage.

As the tension mounts, Manchester United needs a specific set of circumstances to unfold if they are to clinch second place in Group A. Will they rise to the occasion, or will their European adventure come to an abrupt end?

Preview:

In Tuesday's thrilling Champions League clash, Manchester United faces off against Bayern Munich, with the home side needing a series of favorable results to secure a spot in the next round.

Manchester United's European campaign has been marked by high-scoring encounters, and their recent draw against Galatasaray saw them squander a 2-0 and 3-1 lead, ultimately settling for a 3-3 stalemate.

This leaves Manchester United at the bottom of the group with four points, knowing that only a victory will suffice to prolong their journey in Europe's premier competition.

Even if Manchester United manages to defy the odds, they also rely on Copenhagen and Galatasaray, both of whom are one point ahead of them, to play out a draw. Otherwise, the possibility of demotion to the Europa League or complete elimination from continental football looms large, casting a shadow over their holiday season.

While Manchester United had a brief respite with a win against Chelsea, their weekend encounter with Bournemouth ended in a nightmarish 3-0 defeat, leaving their manager, Erik ten Hag, openly admitting that his team was "not good enough" to compete consistently at the top level.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich also suffered a shocking 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, marking their first domestic defeat of the season.

However, history favors Bayern Munich in their upcoming clash, as they aim to extend their unbeaten run in Champions League group-stage away games to 20 matches.

Moreover, they have won their last eight away group-stage matches, a remarkable achievement in Europe's top competition.

In September, Bayern defeated Manchester United 4-3 at the Allianz Arena, continuing their recent dominance in head-to-head matchups.

Team news:

Manchester United's injury list remains lengthy, with players like Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Amad Diallo expected to be sidelined.

Victor Lindelof's availability is uncertain due to a knock, while Jadon Sancho continues to be excluded. Marcus Rashford, who has been on the bench this month, is also dealing with an illness, along with Anthony Martial.

After their disappointing performance against Bournemouth, changes are expected in Manchester United's lineup. Kobbie Mainoo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Rasmus Hojlund, and possibly Raphael Varane could see some much-needed rotation.

On the Bayern Munich side, Serge Gnabry, who suffered a "major strain" during the Frankfurt match, joins the injury list alongside Sven Ulreich, Matthijs de Ligt, Bouna Sarr, Gabriel Marusic, and Tarek Buchmann.

However, the absence of Gnabry opens the door for Jamal Musiala to return to the starting XI. There are also rumors of Thomas Muller making an appearance at Old Trafford.

What coaches said:

Manager Erik ten Hag remains optimistic about Manchester United's chances, stating, "We are not consistent but we have good performances. If we are in the right spirit, we are able to beat any opponent."

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel acknowledges Manchester United's goal-scoring prowess but points out their inconsistent defensive record, saying, "It's been a bit up and down for them."

However, Tuchel recognizes the challenge of playing against Manchester United, emphasizing their resilience and ability to overcome difficult moments.

He adds, "The stadium creates some special moments, so it's a difficult place to come and play but it's a very good challenge for us."

As the clock ticks down to this crucial Champions League clash, Manchester United and Bayern Munich find themselves at a crossroads.
