Before joining the South African side, the UEFA A coaching license holder worked for Ghana national team.

South African Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns, to which Kenyan defender Brian Mandela is signed, have appointed Mathias Zangenberg as their new Head of Physical Performance.

The Danish expert was announced as the new conditioning coach on Thursday as they prepare for their CAF Champions League quarter-finals against CR Belouizdad.

Zangenberg previously worked for the Ghana national team, serving as the Athletic Coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Before moving to the Black Stars, Zangenberg worked for Denmark SuperLiga outfit Aarhus Gymnastikforening.

He was previously in charge of FC Nordsjælland, where he was part of the backroom staff that steered the team in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League competitions.

Zangenberg holds a UEFA A coaching license and is a Masters' graduate specializing in human physiology.

At Masandawana, he will be responsible for aligning the physical training methodology of the senior men's, women's, and academy teams.

"His knowledge, experience and work ethic will assist in getting the first team to the next level and to make a clear strategy for physical training and injury prevention throughout the entire club," Mamelodi Sundowns' Sporting Director, Flemming Berg told the club website.

Zangenberg becomes the latest addition to the technical bench following the recent appointment of Michael Loftman, who was named as the new set piece coach in February.

The UK-born coach, Loftman, is a UEFA license holder, which he obtained from the English FA.

He also has a sports science and coaching master's degree from Brunel University and had previously worked at Orlando Pirates, where he was a performance analyst and reserve team coach.

The new addition is expected to boost the 2016 CAF Champions League winners in line with their plans to be a force to reckon with in the continent.

Sundowns were declared Dstv Premiership champions for the sixth consecutive season, earning a ticket to represent South Africa in next season's CAF Champions League.
