The Murang’a Seal coach believes his side have what it takes to clinch the title in their debut top flight season after a brilliant first 11 games that sees them level on points with Gor Mahia.

Murang’a Seal head coach Gabriel ‘Kingi’ Njoroge believes his side is more than capable of clinching the Premier League title despite only earning promotion from the National Super League (NSL) this year.

Seal managed to force a draw against Gor Mahia in a match that was embroiled in a lot of refereeing controversy and chaos at full time, as the police had to try and calm the situation down by chasing the rowdy fans out of the stadium.

Njoroge insisted that the point gained against Gor Mahia would spark a lot of belief in his charges, which could put them in a prime position to lift the title by May.

“Hopefully, we live in soccer believing you are going to be champions or win all matches that you play but sometimes it does not happen,” Njoroge said.

“You have to keep your heart there, ‘I will, I will, I will’. That is the only thing I can tell you.”

Seal have been playing well, with some of the players becoming standouts, including Eric Balecho, who earned his maiden call-up to the Harambee Stars squad, but never made the final travelling party for the trip to Gabon on Wednesday morning.

“Let him (Balecho) be there. I will need even more players called up. Come and pick some more.” Njoroge said of Balecho.

“Any time you are playing away from home, you need to protect your goal line first. In all the games that I have been in charge of, we have been planning that defending is a must but attack when we can.

“That has been my philosophy for a long time, even when I was at Mathare and in all the teams where I have been in charge. Defending is a must.”

Murang’a Seal are currently third in the league on 21 points, having collected six wins , drawn thrice and lost twice.

They currently look on course to replicate Sofapaka’s heroics in 2009 under the stewardship of Robert Matano, who led the side to the league title having earned promotion from the second-tier league in 2008 at the first time of asking.
