Lampard has yet to register a victory in three games since returning to Stamford Bridge.

Pressure is mounting on Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard after a 2-1 Premier League loss to Brighton on Saturday.

Since taking charge, Lampard has overseen losses against Wolves, Real Madrid – in the Champions League - and now Brighton.

The Blues took an early lead when Conor Gallagher scored, but the Seagulls fought back and picked up a win.

Meanwhile, the deadlock would have been broken in the ninth minute, but Brighton’s Evan Ferguson hit the woodwork. The away side won the ball high up as the Blues tried to play out from the back before the ball came to Ferguson on the edge.

Although he had time and space to bend goalward, his effort came off the bar, much to Chelsea’s relief.

Despite the away side pinning the Blues for some minutes, Gallagher scored for Chelsea in the 14th minute. Mykhailo Mudryk got Chelsea up the pitch by finding Gallagher, whose shot deflected off Lewis Dunk and past Robert Sanchez in Brighton’s goal for the opener.

Brighton equalized in the 42nd minute through Danny Welbeck. The former Arsenal forward – who also equalised for Brighton at Stamford Bridge last season – received a bent cross from Pascal Gross and nodded it in off the far post.

The Blues came close to regaining their lead in the third minute of added time after a good move, but an offside flag went up. Raheem Sterling was the chief engineer of the move and gave the ball to Gallagher, who had won possession against Dunk.

The ball meant for Ben Chilwell was whipped in for a Christian Pulisic header against the upright. The offside flag was raised because Gallagher had just gotten ahead of play when he got it back from Sterling.

Brighton scored their second in the 69th minute after being the better side for some time. Joao Felix and Reece James lost the ball in their own half, and Solly March pounced and passed it to Julio Enciso about 30 yards outside the area.

The Paraguayan took a touch before he powered a shot into the top corner.

A chance for an equalizer for Chelsea came in the 79th minute, but Mudryk on the left side could not find Hakim Ziyech in the middle. The ball then went to Mason Mount on the edge of the box, but the English midfielder sent his effort wide.
