Kylian Mbappe has reportedly informed PSG he will not be triggering the extension on his contract. This means they will have to sell him this summer or lose him for free.

French superstar Julian Mbappe has reportedly notified Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be triggering the one-year extension on his contract.

Kylian Mbappe contract situation

The 25-year-old only recently signed a two-plus-one-year contract extension last summer after a protracted transfer saga in which he was inches away from joining Real Madrid.

According to reports, the option for one year can only be triggered by the player, and with one year gone already, this could mean Mbappe will be available on a free transfer at the end of next season should he refuse to renew.

Mbappe sends message to PSG

According to l'Equipe, the former Monaco man sent a formal letter to the club today, informing them that he will not activate the one-year extension option on his contract.

PSG were said to be taken by surprise, as they were in fresh extension talks with the player, which they thought were progressing smoothly.

This development means Kylian will be available on a free transfer next summer and could force the club to sell him this coming transfer window.

PSG are said to have decided to sell him this window should he fail to renew, as he will not be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Following the exit of Kareem Benzema, Los Blancos might return to the negotiation table with Les Parisiens for the World Cup winner.
