Gareth Bale has made himself some new enemies in the Real Madrid fan base after his latest claims

Former Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has drawn the ire of Los Blancos fans after he revealed that he believed rival Barcelona star Lionel Messi was the best player to win the UEFA Champions League, shunning Galacticos great Cristiano Ronaldo

Bale makes bold claims about Messi over Ronaldo

Bale was one of the ambassadors for this year’s UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, and the Welshman participated in a fun game ahead of the final, answering quick-fire questions on UEFA’s official channel.

The former Wales international answered two questions that forced him to choose between Ronaldo and Messi, and on both occasions, he jettisoned his former teammate in favour of the Argentine maestro.

Bale was asked who the best player to win the UCL trophy was, and he replied, “Messi,” before also stating that he would prefer to have the World Cup winner’s left foot over Ronaldo’s right foot.

Real Madrid fans react to Bale’s ‘treason’

Needless to say, Real Madrid fans who reacted to the post did not see the funny or indeed objective side of Bale’s comments and went after him with some calling him a traitor, while others claimed he had ruined his legacy at the club with the statement.

Fans were puzzled at Bale's decision after forming a bond with Ronaldo at Real Madrid, with some believing that the Welshman might be suffering from a bout of jealousy

Other fans labelled him a traitor to both Real Madrid and Ronaldo with some claiming that he deserved to be put on the bench for his final days at Los Blancos for his current behaviour.

In all, Bale's comments about Messi would have earned him a lot of new detractors among the Real Madrid faithful, but he is unlikely to care after leaving the club on a sour note with the fans in the first place.
