There’s a new Nigerian ‘Samu’ in the Spanish top-flight, but it is not Chukwueze, who moved to AC Milan in the summer.

History was made last night at the Wanda Metropolitano after a 19-year-old named Samuel Omorodion became the third-youngest goalscorer in LaLiga for Granada,

Omorodion drew Granada level in their LaLiga clash against Atletico Madrid. Although Nazaries would go on to lose the match 3-1, Omorodion announced himself on the big stage.

It is also important to note that the match was not just Omorodion’s LaLiga debut but also his first-team debut.

However, who is this youngster hoping to make a name for himself?

Samuel Omorodion history

Omorodion was born on May 5, 2004, in Melilla, Spain, but his parents are Nigerians. He moved to  Maracena, Granada, Andalusia at a young age.

The 19-year-old started his career with Nervion U-19 side in 2021 before joining Granada’s U-19 that same year.

While his career is still in the early stages, Omorodion is already showing signs that he could be one of the best strikers in Spain in years to come.

The youngster scored 24 goals for Granada’s Juvenile team in his first season at the club before scoring 18 goals and recording five assists in 33 games in the Segunda Federacion last season.

His exploits last season earned him a promotion to the first team this season, getting off to a great start.

Omorodion made his first start for Granada on Monday night and was in action for 81 minutes against Atletico Madrid.

His goal in the clash is a true striker’s finish, showing great awareness to move away from his marker and stab home a low cross from Gonzalo Villar.

But it was not just the goal. Omorodion’s all-round play was also impressive, with ten passes completed, including two key passes.

However, while he was impressive, Omorodion also showed that he still needs to improve after missing one big chance.

Nonetheless, the 19-year-old’s future looks bright.

Is Omorodion eligible for Nigeria?

Yes, Omorodion is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his parents. However, he is also eligible for Spain and has played for La Roja’s U-19 side five times, scoring once.
