AFCON defending champions Senegal breached Andre Onana to become the latest team to reach the AFCON 2023 knockout stage.

The defending champions of the Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal, have booked a spot in the knockout stage of the AFCON 2023 after a routine victory against Cameroon.

Ismaila Sarr was the star man as Senegal held off a late fightback from the Indomitable Lions to seal a 3-1 win in the Group C encounter on Friday night.

The Teranga Lions got things off to a quick start when Sarr, who scored one and assisted the second goal, opened the scoring with a smart but deflected effort in the 16th minute.

In the second half, the Marseille man then set up Habibou Diallo to double the lead 19 minutes from time.

However, Cameroon made it an interesting final minutes when Jean-Charles Castelletto pulled one back with seven minutes to play.

Despite an extra seven minutes of additional time, it was the Teranga Lions who added to the score line when Sadio Mane guided a cutback past a helpless Onana in goal for Cameroon.

A deserved win for Senegal that sees them join Cape Verde as the countries to have booked their spots in the knockout stage of the 34th AFCON.
