Ayunga, who has featured prominently for St.Mirren since his return from injury, stayed on the bench all game.

Harambee Stars striker Jonah Ayunga was surprisingly unused in St.Mirren’s 3-0 win over Hibernian in a Scottish Premiership encounter on Saturday.

Ayunga has made 12 appearances for St. Mirren since his return from an ACL injury last December, scoring two goals, and has mostly started every match.

Eyebrows were therefore raised when he was unused in the match, staying on the bench throughout.

An uninspiring second half followed an utterly catastrophic start for Hibernian, while St Mirren rejoiced after closing the gap to fourth-placed Kilmarnock.

Caolan Boyd-Munce grabbed two tidy assists for Alex Gogic’s headed opener and Mikael Mandron’s tap-in, with a penalty from Greg Kiltie sandwiched in between the two.

Nick Montgomery made three changes at the break but there was little improvement as a furious Hibs support made their frustrations known throughout.

Ayunga, who has already said he would love to help Harambee Stars qualify for the FIFA World Cup, will be hoping he can make a big enough impression to return to the starting line up for their next match against Dundee.

Ayunga, received his first call-up to the Kenya national team on August 5, 2018, but did not play.
