Rangers have signed a new manager, ending Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun's wait for a new head coach

Nigerian stars Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun have ended their short wait for a new manager after Rangers announced the signing of Belgian manager Phillipe Clement as head coach following the sacking of Michael Beale.

Beale sacked by Rangers

Beale was axed as Dessers and Balogun were celebrating Nigeria’s independence day following a string of poor results for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

The English manager had been in charge for almost one year after taking over from Giovanni van Bronkhurst, with his reign ending in disappointment after starting with promise.

Despite maintaining a reasonable winning percentage as Rangers manager, key losses would be the undoing of Beale, as the Teddy Bears crashed out of the final UEFA Champions League qualifying round and followed that up with losses to Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Clement replaces sacked Beale

The poor results spelled the end for Beale, and after less than a month, Rangers found a replacement in Clement, who was free following a spell at Monaco.

Clement comes highly recommended after claiming three consecutive Belgian Pro League titles with Genk and Club Brugge before heading to Monaco in Ligue 1.

The former Belgium international was sacked after one year with Monaco and will be hoping to pick up his career with a spell in Scotland with the Gers.
