Jurgen Klopp's decision to leave Liverpool would have put a number of clubs on high alert, leaving several top managers fearing for their jobs

Jurgen Klopp's announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season has sent shockwaves through the football world and initiated widespread speculation about his next destination.

While Klopp has stated that he does not know when next he will enter management, the German gaffer might be tempted to take a new role, especially outside England, leaving a number of current coaches sweating over the safety of their jobs.

Which coaches are in the greatest danger with a manager who has the quality of Klopp on the lose?

Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona)

Barcelona’s Xavi has done a fine job of returning the Blaugrana to an acceptable level after winning the LaLiga title in his first full season but his struggles in the current campaign have exposed football’s short memory once again.

The Barcelona legend is fighting for his job after an unconvincing UEFA Champions League group stage campaign (even though the Blaugrana finished first) and struggles in the LaLiga campaign; should he be asked to leave the club, Klopp would immediately become a prime candidate for the job.

Julian Nagelsmann (Germany)

Before Julian Nagelsmann was named as the temporary Germany boss to oversee the Euro 2024 build-up and finals, Klopp was touted as one of the possible candidates for the job and with his Liverpool departure could be back on the DFB’s radar.

Nagelsmann’s current contract ends after the Euros in the summer by which time Klopp would be a free agent and a prime candidate to replace him. With Nagelsmann also tipped as a potential successor to Klopp at Liverpool, the situation could work out perfectly for both coaches.

Thomas Tuchel (Bayern Munich)

Since his Borussia Dortmund days, Jurgen Klopp has been admired by the Bayern Munich hierarchy as a potential head coach for the Bavarians but so has current boss Thomas Tuchel.

However, tensions between Tuchel and Bayern Munich’s current and future management have reportedly run high, making a separation by the summer a very real possibility. Klopp’s availability will only heighten that possibility and a return to his native Germany with the biggest team in the country could prove too hard to turn down.

Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid were able to hold off pressure from the Brazilian national team to retain the services of Carlo Ancelotti, extending his current contract until 2026, but that does not mean there have not been doubts about the Italian’s continuation at the club.

That Ancelotti’s contract was allowed to run almost until the end shows a sliver of doubt in president Florentino Perez’ mind about the legendary Italian manager and that sliver would have gotten bigger with Klopp now on the market as a possible replacement.

Luis Enrique (Paris Saint-Germain)

As other coaches have found out, the job of a Paris Saint-Germain manager is always in danger and Luis Enrique is no different.

Despite topping the Ligue 1 table with a healthy eight-point lead over Nice, Luis Enrique must know that clinching the league title alone will not be enough to keep him in the driver’s seat as evidenced by the departure of Christophe Galtier last season. Without a deep run in the UEFA Champions league to back up his league campaign, Luis Enrique could be forced to make way for Klopp in the summer.

These connections are purely speculative, and the actual impact of Klopp's departure on these coaches will depend on several factors, including their current contract situations, performances and the German Gaffer’s willingness to return to training.
