However, five years on, the Kasasiro Boys have failed to return to the big stage, having not won any of the league or domestic cup in that period which guarantees continental action but all that seems to be in the past now with Vipers’ latest feat.
The Venoms’ domestic double triumph for the first time in the club’s history now means that KCCA FC, who finished second in the league, will have the opportunity to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The FUFA competition rules state that if a club wins both the league and Uganda Cup, the club that finished second in the league takes up the second continental spot available unless that club declines the opportunity.
KCCA FC finished third on six points in their debut CAF Champions League campaign, picking up two home wins against Township Rollers and Al Ahly.
However, it was the season before in the CAF Confederation Cup, where the Kasasiro boys left a mark, finishing third on nine points, levelling with FUS Rabat, who advanced on goal difference.
Mike Mutebi’s side picked up three wins against FUS Rabat, Rivers United and Club Africain.
Pulse Sports reached out to KCCA FC CEO Anisha Muhoozi and vice chairman Aggrey Ashaba for a comment on the matter, but they both remained tight-lipped.
“Peter (referring to this writer), it’s not yet confirmed that we shall be there,” Muhoozi noted.
In between the last time, KCCA FC played on the continent and now, Vipers have won the league thrice to move to six titles, while Express FC also claimed one title to move to seven titles.
