Wanyama and Kenyan-born Somali defender Abdi Salim were unused substituted during the match, while NabI Kibunguchy was left out of the matchday squad.

Kenyan duo of Victor Wanyama and Nabi Kibunguchy did not feature as CF Montreal Impact played Orlando City to a goalless draw in their first MLS match of 2024, maintaining a remarkable 10-year streak of positive results on opening day.

Kenyan-born Somali international Abdi Salim also failed to play a minute of the match during the drub encounter, which was their first match of the 2023/2024 MLS Season.

The game proved challenging for Orlando with numerous turnovers in the first half leading to Montreal's chances.

The offensive end lacked precision, particularly with missed passes on runs into the box. The team, playing their second game in four days, showed signs of fatigue.

David Brekalo made an impressive Lions debut, leading in interceptions, tackles, and clearances during his 77-minute play. His promising performance included a near-goal header off a cross from Cesar Araujo.

Facundo Torres and Ivan Angulo switched positions in the first half to adapt to Montreal's defensive strategies, making adjustments in the second half to open up the game. The Lions faced tough luck with a disallowed goal and a penalty call revoked due to offside flags.

Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese continued his stellar opening-day performances, securing a clean sheet in all five matches played since joining the team in 2020. His crucial late-game save in the 92nd minute contributed to the team's early-season success.

The first half saw Orlando struggling against Montreal's high defensive line, adjusting in the second half and increasing their shot count from four to 11.

Despite a quick turnaround between the Concacaf Champions Cup match and the recent game, Orlando heads into the second leg with a 3-0 aggregate lead, poised to advance to the next round.

Kibunguchy played a majority of his football in the MLS Next Pro last season, and is likely to keep playing there for the time being as he was left out of the squad

Salim, who made his debut for Somalia last November, failed to make it off the bench like Wanyama for Montreal despite being named in the matchday squad.
