Laurent Courtois aims to boost CF Montreal by focusing on developing young talent for future success.

Major League Soccer (MLS) club CF Montreal fresh off the appointment of Laurent Courtois as their new manager are gearing up for an exciting season ahead.

Courtois, known for his knack for developing young talent, is eager to bring a dynamic style of play and emotions to the fans as he takes over the reins.

Courtois, a 45-year-old Lyon native with a remarkable coaching career, assumes his role just in time for the upcoming training camp, scheduled to run from January 13 to February 23.

With a track record of nurturing emerging stars, the Montreal faithful have every reason to be optimistic about the future.

"I am honored to join the Club and begin this new adventure in Montreal," expressed Laurent Courtois.

"This responsibility represents great pride for me. I look forward to working with everyone at the Club and contributing to the success of the team. I want to continue the development work started with our young players, while offering a dynamic style of play and emotions to the supporters."

One player eager for a fresh start under coach Courtois is Kenya international, Victor Wanyama.

The 32-year-old midfielder had fallen out of favor with the previous coach, Losada, who rarely selected him in the final months of last season, leading to strained relations.

With Courtois' arrival, Wanyama might see a resurgence in his career and an opportunity to make a significant impact on the team.

Courtois brings an impressive coaching resume to Montreal. He was the manager of Columbus Crew reserve team from January 28, 2022, where he achieved remarkable success.

In his first season in Columbus, he led Crew II to the regular season championship with a record of 16 wins, three losses, and five draws, ultimately securing the MLS Next Pro Series title.

His outstanding performance earned him the title of MLS Next Pro Coach of the Year.

In the following season, Courtois steered Crew 2 to the championship final for the second consecutive year, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier coach.

His extensive experience, combined with a UEFA A coaching license and the United States Soccer Federation coaching license, underscores his commitment to nurturing young talent and leading teams to victory.

Laurent Courtois began his career as a player-coach with LA Galaxy II in 2014 before returning to France to continue his coaching journey with the Olympique Lyonnais (OL) Academy, where he made a significant impact over three years.

He then returned to the United States, working as an assistant coach for Galaxy II in 2017, followed by head coaching roles with the Crew's under-17 and U19 teams in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

During his playing career, Courtois, a versatile midfielder and winger, featured in 39 matches and logged 1,575 regular-season minutes in MLS with Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy.

His journey also included stints in France's Ligue 1 with clubs like Toulouse and Grenoble Foot 38, as well as a spell in the English First Division with West Ham United.

Courtois even plied his trade in Spain with Levante UD, making his career a testament to his deep football knowledge.
