We want Peseiro to stay — Super Eagles AFCON hero Troost-Ekong declares

Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong has voiced his support for head coach Jose Peseiro.

Nigeria defender and vice-captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed that he, along with his teammates would love for Jose Peseiro to continue as head coach of the Super Eagles. 

Peseiro's contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expired, and the Portuguese tactician has garnered serious interest from the Algeria Football Federation.

The 63-year-old guided the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, raising his stock in the eyes of the footballing world.

Troost-Ekong wants Peseiro to remain in charge of Super Eagles

Troost-Ekong disclosed that the players are eager for the coach to commit to a contract extension.

“Yes. I think the players are happy with him. Reaching the final is something significant and also something we can build on,” Troost-Ekong said in an exclusive interview with CNN World Sports Amanda Davies. 

“However, on what he had in mind, I did try to ask him before we left and he said he’s going to call me back.

"I think I’m just as much in the dark as you guys are but I think all the players would be happy to see him back.”

Nigeria will now shift their focus to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, with fixtures against South Africa, and Benin on the horizon.
