The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have praised the women's senior national team for their most recent performances as well as the 'positive team spirit' prior to the Women's World Cup.

Nigeria's football governing body made its position known via communique from an executive committee meeting held at the NFF secretariat on Monday, April 17.

Super Falcons on a 3-game win streak

Following a lengthy and unfortunate spell that saw the Super Falcons lose seven consecutive matches, the Randy Waldrum-led side has since February 2023, won all its matches.

Nigeria recorded its most recent victory: 3-0, against the 2023 Women's World Cup co-hosts New Zealand, in a pre-competition friendly held in Turkey.

Beyond the positive results, videos of Super Falcons stars dancing together and participating in groups in social media challenges, have gone viral on the internet.

NFF happy with team mood

In the communique, the NFF urged that the team continue in such vein heading into the Women's World Cup scheduled to start on July 20.

"The Board expressed satisfaction with the new positive spirit and winning mentality in the camp of the senior women national team, Super Falcons, which has seen the team win its last three international matches.

"With the bigger picture of the biggest-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup competition coming up in Australia and New Zealand this summer in mind, the Board admonished the technical crew to work even harder to give confidence to the players that they can indeed stand their own against the world’s best.

"Board stated that it will do even more to prepare the team for the big challenge with another grade A friendly match in Europe and a two-week camping in Australia before the kick-off of the tournament on 20 July."

Nigeria are drawn in Group B of the Women's World Cup alongside co-host Australia, Olympic champions Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
