Sports Club Villa and Dortmund were cruelly denied the elusive league title on the final matchday.
Both teams needed a win to secure the league title.
While Dortmund needed a win or an equivalent to Bayern Munich’s result to get their Bundesliga title in 11 years, SC Villa similarly had to beat Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club at Wankulukuku Stadium to win the Uganda Premier League title for the first time in 19 years.
A gripping day it was and the two lost in cruel manner.
SC Villa came into the final matchday leading the table on 52 points, two above KCCA FC and Vipers SC.
While KCCA FC and Vipers SC thumped their opponents in resounding 5-0 score lines, SC Villa couldn’t contain the pressure as they lost 1-0.
Dortmund were able to muster a 2-2 draw against Mainz while Bayern beat Koln 2-1.
The results provoked social media reactions from football fans comparing the two teams to Arsenal’s ‘bottle job’ in the English Premier League.
