Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium could soon be unveiled to the public as Hamz Stadium if trending photos of the seats being installed in the stadium are anything to go by.
City businessman Hamis Kiggundu better known as Ham oversees the stadium's redevelopment works in a private-public partnership to redevelop the Nakivubo estate, which has since seen the shopping mall construction around the facility.
Ham took charge of the development of the Nakivubo estate in 2015, and passionate football fans have since longed for the completion of the stadium.
Speaking recently, Ham attributed the delays due to COVID-19, which he blamed for raising the construction cost.
However, with interest in sports facilities gaining public attention following the closure of the sole national stadium, Mandela National Stadium, also known as Namboole, critics have slammed the progress of construction of Nakivubo Stadium.
Updates shared by the businessman on social media have met a fair share of bitterness than praise.
Now, the critics are at it again after spotting that the seats installed at the stadium are labelled 'Hamz Stadium', a reference that the facility could have changed hands or the operator could have acquired naming rights as part of the redevelopment deal.
