However, there is still some ambiguity due to historic records claiming Pelé scored 1,279. FIFA itself acknowledges Ronaldo as the leading scorer, but if you consider unofficial tallies, there's a slight gap.

Should Ronaldo reach 1,000 career goals, it would place the record beyond reach for generations to come. Only someone with his fitness, hunger, and career longevity could do it.
