‘Absolute rubbish coming out with that’ - Roy Keane slams Ten Hag for praising Bruno Fernandes
After barely three minutes, Alejandro Garnacho made headlines with an amazing overhead kick to open the scoring for Man United
Then, in the second half, Ashley Young fouled Anthony Martial in the area, giving the Red Devils a chance to double their lead from the spot before Martial rounded up the win.
Roy Keane’s comment
Roy Keane was not pleased with Ten Hag’s comment on Bruno Fernandes handing the penalty kick to Rashford.
Unexpectedly, United's captain Fernandes, who often takes penalties, delegated the task to his teammate Rashford.
His confidence in the forward paid off as he scored a thunderous goal in the 56th minute, just before Martial sealed the win.
After the game United manager Ten Hag was asked how much Rashford needed his goal and he said, “A lot.
"You see also how great captain Bruno is. He assessed his teammate needed that goal. He has the confidence in Rashy, who is a good penalty-taker. As a team, you need that leadership that you back each other.”
However, Keane, a Sky Sports analyst covering the match, was not pleased with the response Ten Hag gave.
Keane said as reported by the Sun, “He's giving toffee out there to Bruno for passing on the ball for the penalty. Absolute bloody rubbish.
“Absolute rubbish coming out with that. Manchester United are sixth now – if you went back a few years, if you were sixth you'd be embarrassed. But obviously, they seem happy with sixth.
“They have a long way to go. Manchester United have to be competing with the best teams. That's including Liverpool, [Manchester] City, Arsenal.
“It's not been good enough with the talent they've got. Look, they've got themselves in a nice position but the reason you're playing for Manchester United is to compete against the top teams.”
Man United's win against Everton puts them in sixth position in the Premier League table two points behind Tottenham in fifth place.
