Ingwe, in early May, revealed that they had entered into a partnership with the shoemaker, which is based in Limuru, Kiambu County.

On Saturday, there were rumours that the company was closing, but the manufacturing firm has come out to dismiss them.

"We are on a normal annual maintenance shut down normally provided for during off peak season," a statement signed by Bata’s Managing Director Benson Okumu, read.

"All our stores are open and functional, with great teams to serve you and a wide variety of shoes in ample stocks to deliver on our promise - to provide quality footwear for all.

"We live the Bata way by improving the lives of the communities in which we operate, and this means supporting our consumer teams and also the community itself through activities such as Bata Children’s Programme."
