AFCON 2027: Uganda Allocates Extra Sh29.57 Billion to Accelerate Preparations
Uganda has committed an additional Shs 29.57 billion to its preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Parliament approved a new supplementary budget on May 5.
The allocation was part of a larger Shs 1.105 trillion supplementary expenditure presented by State Minister for General Duties, Henry Musasizi, for the 2025/26 financial year.
This funding is intended to address several key national priorities, including security, upcoming elections, and public services.
This financial boost arrives at a crucial time for Uganda, which is co-hosting the continental tournament with regional partners under the "Pamoja AFCON 2027" banner.
The funds are earmarked to accelerate infrastructure development, logistical planning, and overall operational readiness.
AFCON 2027 Additional Funds to Boost Preparations
With preparations moving into the implementation phase, the focus is now on upgrading stadiums, training facilities, and transport networks to meet the stringent standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Work is already underway at key venues, with authorities facing tight deadlines to ensure compliance.
In a related development, CAF has dispatched its Venue Infrastructure and Operations Manager for AFCON 2027 Uganda, Bianca Wambui Brenda, to the country. She is currently inspecting facilities to assess their readiness and ensure projects are on schedule.
These routine inspections are a vital part of the hosting process, determining if infrastructure meets CAF requirements and informing operational plans for match hosting, security, and the overall fan experience.
Beyond construction, Uganda is also coordinating efforts across multiple government agencies to deliver a successful tournament. The newly approved budget is expected to close financial gaps and speed up any delayed aspects of the preparation roadmap.
The AFCON funding is part of a wider supplementary package that also allocates Shs 56.95 billion for local council elections and Shs 132.9 billion for the Uganda Police Force, alongside additional funds for health and education projects.
