AfroBasket: Mali and Angola book final spots
Mali pulled off a historic upset, defeating Senegal 87-80 to secure their first appearance in the AfroBasket final.
The thrilling semifinal showdown between the two west African countries took place at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Mali defeats Senegal
Senegal came into the game high off a massive win against Nigeria and started strong, taking the first quarter 22-19.
However, Mali mounted a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Senegal 24-13 to take an eight-point lead into the break.
The Eagles continued their domination into the third quarter, edging out Senegal 24-23 stretching their lead to nine points.

Despite the Lions' efforts to regain control in the fourth quarter with several runs, outscoring Mali 22-21, the Eagles held on to secure an eight-point victory.
Mali were led by Mahamane Coulibaly who finished wiith 23 points, Sirimane Kanoute contributed 15 points, while Oumar Bello added 19 points.
Angola Defeats Cameroon
In the other semifinal clash, Angola edged out Cameroon with a dramatic 74-73 victory securing their place in the tournament's final.
Cameroon started hot to take the first quarter 21-16, but Angola bounced back with a strong second quarter, outscoring their opponents 21-17 to narrow the gap.
In the third quarter, Cameroon were back in charge taking it 21-15 and extending their halftime lead to seven.
However, Angola stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter with multiple runs to secure a 22-14 scoreline and a crucial clutch three-pointer by Childe Dundão to win the game.
Top performers for Angola included Selton Miguel with 17 points, Bruno Fernando with 15 points, and Gerson Goncalves with 11 points.
Angola will now take on Mali on home soil in the final scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2025.
